Summary/Abstract: The work presented deals with the positivist and interpretative-phenomenological research philosophy in the field of tourism, as a framework for the development of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Tourism as a research field aims to become a science, for which he currently lacks its own paradigms, concepts, logical structures, principles and methods. Researchers who study certain phenomena in tourism are often declare to quantify and clearly structured approach to the study of phenomena (or problem). On the other hand, there is a new generation of researchers that highlights the perception on the whole, the real social reality in order to explain the process and reasons why it occurs. Although often conflicting, these two streams of research are in fact complementary because tourism is very complex and incorporates several disciplines. By combining their research methods both resolving pragmatic issues in practice, so as constitution of the theoretical basis that could contribute to the development of tourism as a science, could be achieved.
