Summary/Abstract: Textiles are the product of weaving of woollen, cotton, silk, and other threads, and may just as well serve their function in fashion, protection or any other field in human life. Throughout a linguistic analysis of various names for fabrics, it is possible to follow up the tradition and culture of clothing through centuries and thus point out the prevalence and diffusion of individual fabrics in Europe. The main goal of this research was to collect all possible terms used to describe certain fabrics in the Croatian language in order to perform a lexicological and etymological analysis. The linguistic analysis will help to find the etymology of the individual terms and thus determine the donor languages used for denomination of fabric terms in Croatian. Apart from this, the Croatian terms for fabrics will be compared to the terms used for textiles in other European languages.
