A MULTIPLIED SPACE IN SARTRE’S HUIS-CLOS

Summary/Abstract: Du point de vue historique, le XXe siècle est le siècle le plus bouleversé de l’histoire connue de l’humanité, se caractérisant par plusieurs événements majeurs. C’est dans ce contexte que Jean-Paul Sartre se fraie un chemin dans la vie littéraire française en y apportant un souffle nouveau. Notre travail se propose d’analyser la pièce Huis clos dans le but de démontrer que lorque l’on parle de l’espace de l’emprisonnement, on doit prendre en considération qu’il ne s’agit pas d’un seul type d’espace et que celui-ci se multiplie justement pour rendre l’impossibilité d’y échapper. From a historic point of view, the XXth century is perhaps the most moving century of the known history of mankind, being characterized by several major events. It is within this frame that Jean-Paul Sartre clears himself a road in the French literary life bringing a spirit of novelty. Our paper aims at analyzing the play Huis clos, in order to show that when one talks about the imprisonment space, one should take into account that there is not only one ype of space, but that the space multiplies exactly to render the impossibility of escaping.
