Summary/Abstract: This article presents and briefl y discusses silk clothing fabrics from the early 18th century to until the 1760s. when the chinoiserie style was developed in European art and craft as a result of the import of goods from East Asia by European trading companies in the 17th and the 18th centuries. The article describes and analyses both artistic and technical problems based on fi ve silk fabrics from the author’s private collection, great examples of diff erent stages of the chinoiserie style in a fabric design.
