Sentiments and Resentments of the Nobility in Contemporary Polish Culture

Summary/Abstract: This article describes the reception of noble culture in contemporary Poland. This occurs on three levels: the material, the behavioral and the symbolic. The reception results not so much from historical knowledge as from cultural memory of long duration. The memory involves interpretations, overinterpretations and omissions, therefore, it always remains secondary to its archetype. Hence, it is expressed through individual and collective sentiments and resentments, conscious and unconscious.
