Summary/Abstract: The first Sunday of Lent is dedicated to icons, in memory of the historic moment of the restoration of the cult of icons from 843. On this occasion, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church addresses all its believers a pastoral letter on the reasons and significance of honoring the icons and their role in the lives of all Christians.
