Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the life of Johannes Herberth, pastor in Zuckmantel/ Țigmandru, based on his chronicle, which is preserved in the Transylvanian archive in Gundelsheim. It consists of two parts, both of which seem to be drafts: The first goes up to 1826, when his son was born; the second is said to date from the forties of the 19th century. The second part is somewhat more detailed, mentioning the names and occupations of his schoolmates of Sighișoara, as well as providing details of his trip to Tübingen and the prices there during the food crisis of 1817.Johannes Herberth was born in Johannisdorf/ Sântioana on 29 November 1794. He learned to read, write and do arithmetic at the primary schools in Johannisdorf, then attended the secondary school in Sighișoara. Later on he taught German as a private teacher in Tîrgu Mureș.In 1817–1818 he studied theology in Tübingen, where he witnessed famine and emigration. After completing his studies, he returned and worked as a private teacher in Dragu. In 1821, he became a pastor in Zuckmantel/ Țigmandru. The article informs about the school life, travels, activities of Pastor Herberth as well as about the natural disasters that occurred in Zuckmantel/ Țigmandru until his death in 1854.
