Summary/Abstract: The article undertakes the discussion concerning the choice of the best among possible philosophical explanations for scientific facts. That discussion regards criteria applied in that choice as well as possibilities of making objective and legitimate choice. These criteria are usually found in methodological conditions of proper explanations and other epistemic and extra–epistemic criteria of such choice. Because of the qualitative character of these criteria and their great variety and relativity to concrete research situation, the choice of the best of possible philosophical explanations of scientific facts is not unambiguously determined, and as a consequence, it is subjected to the influence of extra–epistemic, subjective factors.
