CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATIVE SIGNIFICANCE AND MEANING OF THE NEW EVANGELIZATION IN THE CONTEXT OF LIFE AND WORK OF FR. BONO ZVONIMIR ŠAGI

Summary/Abstract: The paper in the field of communication sciences thematizes the communicative significance and meaning of the term “new evangelization” in the context of the work of Fr. Bono Zvonimir Šagi, who for decades carried out the new evangelization in the parish of St. Vid in Varaždin, lectures in philosophy and theology at the Institute for Christian Spirituality at the KBF in Zagreb and as the editor-in-chief of "Kršćanska Sadašnjost". In the introduction, II. Vatican Council and Evangelii Nuntiandi was thematized. In the main part of the paper: concept, significance and meaning of the new evangelization, work of Fr. Bono Šagi and the conducted empirical research on the contemporary meaning of the new evangelization among 75 members of the religious community and believers of the parishes of Sts. Nicholas the Bishop and St. Vid in Varaždin with the aim of researching the significance of the new evangelization, ie the familiarity of the term itself. Hypothesis H1 was also posed: Most believers and members of the religious community are familiar with the concept and contemporary communicative significance of the new evangelization. In the final part, results of the research are discussed and conclusion is presented. In addition to empirical research, scientific methods of analysis and synthesis and description were used. At the descriptive level, information describing the phenomenon is presented, and at the thematic level collected data are grouped by topics, and the analytical level is the core of qualitative research. Within the analytical level, categories are created that arise from the interpretation of the meaning of analyzed data (Richards, 2015: 109-113). The work is a kind of homage to the character and work of Fr. Bono Zvonimir Šagi, who left a deep mark to the lives of inhabitants of the city of Varaždin, regardless of whether or not they are believers.
