Summary/Abstract: Introduction. The starting point for the considerations in the article was the negative experiences of the city space felt by women who are mothers and who move around the city with prams. In the first part of the study, the author presents the framework for defining the concepts essential for further considerations – space and its impact on humans and the theoretical conditions of the analysis of video recordings in the context of research on visuality.Aim. The aim of the article is to present the results of the analysis and interpretation of the author’s etude named “In the maze of motherhood”, created as part of the project “Motherhood of women experiencing violence in the perspective of art-inspired research”, conducted at the Institute of Pedagogy of the University of Wrocław. The study shows the mother’s experiences and reflections on how the space of a large city influences her. Materials and methods. The study consists of a qualitative recording analysis using the formal and abstract analysis stage. The analysis made it possible to look at the experiences of motherhood understood as an action supported by reflection, which constitutes the educational potential of etudes.Results. The results show different dimensions of motherhood experiences in the urban space, not only concerning physical barriers but also in relation to social aspects, such as subjective feelings of motherhood in the social space; the relational nature of the described experiences in the context of the feeling of limitation of freedom: Myself versus Myself and Myself versus Others; the category of ‘change’ in terms of described experiences.
