Summary/Abstract: Until the middle of the 13th century, when the appearance of Trapezitsa was finally formed, it offered enough free space for the formation of large ensembles, with complete planning, compositional and functional solutions. At this stage, five such complexes have been established, religious and secular. These complexes are placed as accents in the urban environment and have no structural significance – for the fortress as a whole, but also for the specific sector in which they fall. The study of these ensembles contributes significantly toward a more comprehensive understanding of the stages and principles in the formation of the urban environment in the fortress.
