Summary/Abstract: In the current and developing global security environment, the process of re-evaluation of the strategic nuclear capabilities has taken centre stage in the military objectives of major nuclear powers. The following paper presents some of the novel strategic weapons systems that are currently in development across such state actors and the ways such systems seek to redefine the strategic nuclear balance and past capabilities afforded by contemporary nuclear triads. The paper presents the major changes that have occurred in the international system in relation to strategic stability and deterrence between the major nuclear super-powers, the novel nuclear systems being currently introduced and makes logical assumptions based on past historical developments of similar such systems in order to enhance contemporary understanding of their potential technical characteristics, objectives and broader impact.
