Summary/Abstract: With the objective of understanding the historical figure of Artemisia Gentileschi (1593–1653), this article analyses and compares the construction of some works by the artist and the character Artemisia in The Passion of Artemisia (2002) Susan Vreeland’s novel. Inspired by the life and work of the Italian painter, the narrative uses pictorial markers to tell the story of the character.
