Summary/Abstract: The article is an example of the application of queer theory to camp. The author claims that the camp’s function is to produce queer identity – i.e. identity which does not find its place in the social system of representation based on the assumption that the subject is a stable, individual entity, equipped with innate attributes. The camp’s ‘I’ is performative, improvised and inconstant. It is a parodist production of identity where parody is understood as a cognitive and artistic act. Camp introduces artefacts whose real sign of otherness can be the trace of the absence of the queer, pointing to the fact that the social system of representation is built on appropriations which can be transgressed and therefore a new, humanity can be achieved.
