Summary/Abstract: The possibility of designating a single Data Protection Officer for several entities, even if provided by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is not very often used in the public sector. Unlike the case of a group of undertakings that may also designate a single Data Protection Officer, public authorities or bodies must overcome certain bureaucratic and legislative barriers in order to enforce a body that can make more efficient their activity, especially in the case of local communities, but also in relation to the supervisory authority. Starting from the question regarding the form of association of the administrative-territorial units in Romania to apply the European norm, we analyze different working hypotheses of the possibility of designation of a single Data Protection Officer by public authorities or bodies, considering their organizational structure and their size.
