About the historical context and reception in Polish metalexicography of the prewar dictionary of Polish edited by Tadeusz Lehr-Spławiński

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the historical context of preparing and publishing the prewar Polish dictionary developed under Tadeusz Lehr-Spławiński’s management and edited by the well-known and reputed Warsaw company Publishing Bookshop Trzaska, Evert & Michalski. The state of art concerning the dictionary was analyzed and commented on. The common belief about the outbreak of war as the reason of breaking up and squandering the lexicographical work was reflected upon. Furthermore, the divergence regarding the title and the scope of the lexicographical material was thoroughly discussed and explained using information regarding the situational context of preparing and publishing the dictionary.
