Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the surprisingly long and enduring intersemiotic chain (SewerynaWysłouch) initiated by the publication of Anatol Stern’s long poem Europe (1925) andencompassing works in typography, photomontage, film, theater, and performance that werecreated over the past century. Śniecikowska describes all the artifacts that form this chain ofdiverse media, focusing especially on the film Europa by Franciszka and Stefan Themerson(1931–1932), which was considered lost for almost eighty years, only to be unexpectedly foundin 2019. The article examines the relationship between Stern’s long poem, the Themersons’film, and the related soundtrack. Moreover, Śniecikowska thoroughly describes the film’s visualleitmotifs and its previously unknown ecocritical contexts.
