Summary/Abstract: This article examines the three bills on older persons that were introduced in the 44th National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria (2017–2020). A detailed comparison is made between the different approaches taken in the bills in regulating the legal status of older persons. Also examined are the objections that led to the rejection of the bills by the parliamentary majority in Bulgaria. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of the issue of the elderly’s special needs and situation in the context of growing intergenerational tensions.
