Summary/Abstract: The article is a translation and analysis of some selected parts of letters written ina span of four years (1914-1918) by Erich Kühn, Curt Penther, Hans Brückner andRobert Reichel, Saxons and soldiers of the German Imperial Army, that took part inGerman invasion of Belgium and then were stationed in Flanders. They described ingreat detail not only the aspects of trench warfare, but also the every day life of Germansoldier in the occupied country. The article aims to reconstruct the depiction of thewestern front, Belgium and Belgians, through the words of a German soldiers.
