Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a systematic literature review of studies investigating 3D metaverse experiences in Internet of Medical Things-based virtually simulated environments requiring healthcare artificial intelligence algorithms in relation to immersive virtual reality avatars. The analysis highlights that simulation-based digital twins, remote sensing data fusion algorithms, and smart wearable Internet of Medical Things technologies configure virtual healthcare environments and services in relation to disease prevention and treatment, monitoring vital physiological parameters. Throughout June 2022, I performed a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases, with search terms including “the healthcare metaverse and immersive 3D worlds” + “virtual patient diagnosis and treatment,” “networked medical devices,” and “artificial intelligence-based diagnostic algorithms.” As I inspected research published in 2022, only 138 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By eliminating controversial findings, out- comes unsubstantiated by replication, too imprecise material, or having similar titles, I decided upon 24, generally empirical, sources. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AMSTAR, Distiller SR, MMAT, and ROBIS.
