Summary/Abstract: Based on findings from visits to long-term care facilities, the Ombudsman has formulated recommendations for improving the standard of patient care at such facilities to be implemented as a matter of urgency. It was concluded that due particularly to a general lack of personnel, violations may be occurring with respect to the dignity and privacy of patients. In the context of the prevention of potential ill-treatment, the Ombudsman, Anna Šabatová, visited 8 such long-term care facilities. The Ombudsman was accompanied on her visits by a team of specialised doctors and nurses. Although the findings of the Ombudsman do not necessarily apply to all such facilities, it can reasonably be assumed that they provide a general picture of the long-term care system in the Czech Republic.
