Summary/Abstract: Linguistic change is due to a variety of agents and circumstances; semantic change is usually determined by the psychological basis of the Substratum, a complex set of features in regard to the mentality of an ethnic community, i.e. its perception on reality. This psychological basis works by associating archived knowledge and new experiences, so it sometimes triggers analogies or even confusions. Our paper identifies several categories of semantic changes determined by several types of contiguity, be it physical proximity or semantic compatibility.
