Summary/Abstract: In this article we review, from a perspective that brings together several disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities, various definitions and characteristic aspects of honor, a scientific construct situated at the intersection of several sciences, such as anthropology, psychology, and sociology. In the beginning, we present the multifaceted and complex nature of the concept of honor and examine several theoretical models of explanation of this concept that have been developed over time. We continue with a discussion of honor in a cross‑cultural context and describe different types of cultures using this construct, such as cultures of honor and cultures of dignity. We follow with an account of the various cultural differences that were disclosed by empirical research in this area of study. In the final part of the study, we consider some aspects of honor with reference to the Romanian population and briefly present the results of a pilot study that was conducted in Romania.
