Summary/Abstract: The paper reconstructs some of the main features of Serge Moscovici’s theory of social representations against the background provided by Hegel’s theory of knowledge, identity, and the rational society. The argument presented here is that Moscovici, just like Hegel before him, conceives of social representations as status instituting normative attitudes.
