Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the problem of behavior, of the messages transmitted by General Henri Mathias Berthelot during his journey through Banat, Crișana and Ardeal in December 1918 – January 1919, as well as the content of the messages prepared by the Romanians who met him. It is not surprising that the French general but the Romanians also transmitted to each other the things they wanted to hear and see both sides. In other words, both the Romanians and the French general joined in those days of Berthelot’s tour in the wider paradigm of communication, insisting on the specificity of verbal and non‑verbal communication, of political, public and international communication. In the days when he was present among the Transylvanian Romanians, General Berthelot endeavored to understand those in the midst of whom he was. He expressed great sympathy for the entire Romanian people, suffering with him at times when there was information about crimes and violence directed against Romanians by the Bolshevik Hungarian gangs, but also enjoying when he saw the signs of the vitality of the Romanian people. This was the natural consequence of the fact that both Berthelot and the Romanians shared common values and visions, that they had an increased capacity to adapt to the circumstances and to relate unconditionally to fulfill their duty towards their countries.
