Summary/Abstract: The process of military‑administrative organization of Transylvania during the revolution of 1848–1849 also targeted the region of Mediaș and Sighișoara Chairs. In this context, in the autumn of 1848, the Mediaș Prefecture was established. Two stages can be distinguished in the process of setting it up and functioning. A first stage was represented by that of the Mediaș Vice‑Prefecture (October – November 3, 1848). In a second stage, it would be constituted and function the Mediaș Prefecture (November 3, 1848–January 17, 1849). In its turn, the organization of the Mediaș Prefecture was carried out in three stages: a) November 3–17, 1848; b) November 17 – December 11, 1848; c) December 11, 1848 – January 17, 1849. Its composition included 7 tribunes (four in the Chair of Mediaș and three in the Chair of Sighișoara). The Greek‑Catholic archpriest Ștefan Moldovan served as its vice‑prefect.
