Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of interconnections between criminalistics, criminology and forensics in practical and functional terms. In order to identify common ground in forensics, criminology and forensics, the study attempts to bring closer to each of these particular areas. All three areas share common roots and originate from life sciences and medicine to combat crime. The common origin of the discussed scientific disciplines is one of the reasons for their frequent confusion. However, the interchangeable use of the terms forensics and criminology applies only to everyday language. Contemporary criminology has been subordinated to the social sciences and functions as an independent theoretical discipline that deals with the crime etiology, perpetrator’s behavior and social reaction to crime. Thus, it is drifting out from the nature of practical applied sciences, and thus not only from forensics, but also from criminalistics. The latter one concentrates on collecting, preserving, and analyzing scientific evidence during the course of an investigation and does not deal with a phenomenon of crime and phenomena of social life pathologies.
