Summary/Abstract: The author proceeds from the general meaning of pronouns as a word class and shows how the general (categorical) meaning of individual types of pronouns translates into particular subtypes of pronouns. The author explains different kinds of pronominal meaning. He pays special attention to the occurrence of relative meaning in pronouns with basic indefinite and demonstrative meaning. The findings are based on living linguistic evidence from Slovak literary praxis.
