Summary/Abstract: Historians have paid little attention to election sejmiks, even though the right to elect candidates for land offi ces was one of the oldest powers of assemblies of the nobility. They had obtained this right already in the fifteenth century, which was later confirmed by constitutions. Election sejmiks were introduced to Lithuania by the Second Statute. The citizens of the lands incorporated into the Crown in 1569 adopted most of the Crown customs. In the second half of the seventeenth century, sejmiks of the Ukrainian provinces gathered in exile. Elections took place even though the land courts of these provinces did not function during the exile.
