Summary/Abstract: The 1911 Chinese republican revolution (called Xinhai Revolution) was criticised as a bourgeois ‘unfinished’ revolution, as no more than a dynastic revolution which toppled the Qing government, or even as ‘a sham’. Starting in the 1970s, several authors noticed that the republican revolutionary movement was weak and divided, and they appreciated the substantiality and importance of Qing’s reforms.
