Summary/Abstract: The article examines how the abolition of the freedom of the press took place – at the same time as the Cuban Cultural Revolution – in Cuba. The chief victim of this process was the Cuban press’s flagship, the Catholic daily Diario de la Marina. The paper analyzes how the new regime broke its promises, made the press a tool for political propaganda, and made the situation of critical newspapers and magazines impossible.
