Summary/Abstract: The Books of the Prophet Jaguar, better known as the books of Chilam Balam, is a group of Yucatan Mayan manuscripts written in the Mexican Colonial Era. The most important manuscripts are the Tizimin, the Chumayel and the Mani. The article, given the tight time frame, presents religious continuity and the Mayan-Christian syncretistic tradition, which illustrate well the data provided by the Maya prophecy genre. The texts presented from the Classic and Colonial periods discuss the end of the world and the new creation, which, however, have been linked to historical events. This connection plastically exposes Maya (and Mesoamerican) mytho-historiography and the literature of prophecy that developed from it, i.e., the eternal cosmic struggle that also influenced human destiny.
