Summary/Abstract: The most important factor determining Russia-Moldova and Moldova-West relations is the Transnistria Question. Despite gaining independence among post-Soviet states, Moldova is one of the states that continues to be dependent on Russia due to territorial problems. The Transnistria Question is the determinant of Moldova’s foreign policy. The existence of Transnistria as a problem gives Russia the opportunity to determine Moldova’s domestic and foreign policy. Due to Russia’s Transnistrian policy, Moldova both prefers to remain a neutral country and tries to stay away from the policy of integration with Romania. Although there have been various attempts to resolve the Transnistria Issue since the independence of Moldova, these have been inconclusive. The Transnistria Question is also closely affected by the Russian-Western relations.
