Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to introduce Major Antoni Downarowicz and his role during the Polish campaign of 1806/1807. The sources for the reconstruction of the careers of this army officer were primarily his letters preserved among the General Jan Henryk Dąbrowski Portfolio in The Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw and among Straszewski Portfolio in the Library of Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow. The article contains a concise biographical note on major Downarowicz, describes organizational problems in the 2nd Infantry Regiment, but focuses primarily on the major’s activities on the right bank of the Vistula River during the siege of Gdańsk in 1807. Because the source material is marred by gaps, the author attempted to provide a contextual presentation of major Downarowicz, based on the literature on the subject and the correspondence of General Dąbrowski, Colonel Maurycy Hauke and General Ignacy Giełgud.
