Summary/Abstract: Language performs specific functions in political communication: it is used for communicating and commenting on political affairs, but above all, it aims at persuading and winning political supporters. Furthermore, it is also used to depreciate political opponents. Over the last 10 years or so, political communication has become increasingly present in the digital world, including social media. Out of all the social media, Twitter has become the most frequently and intensively used medium in political debates. The majority of German and Polish politically-engaged actors (institutional ones, i.e. state institutions, political parties, their parliamentary factions or youth organizations, and individual ones, such as politicians, journalists, experts, etc.) interact with the interested audiences via this microblogging service. For that reason, a linguistic analysis presented in this article is focused on the tweets of German and Polish political parties from 2022. The article focuses on feminatives, a linguistic phenomenon that has been a subject of intense public debate for many years. The article presents a comparative analysis of the use of these lexemes both within German and Polish languages, and between particular political parties.
