The first photo album dedicated to Slănic Moldova

Summary/Abstract: The article shows an unknown photo album containing 12 images taken in Slănic Moldova at the end of the XIXth century. The album was sold on an auction site. The album’s author, Moritz Wandelmann, is considered along with Carol Popp de Szathmari, Franz Duschek, Franz Mandy, Moritz B. Baer, A. D. Reiser, one of the pioneers of Romanien photography. He took pictures (and had his studios) in Iaşi, Bârlad, Bucharest, and during summertime in Slănic Moldova. The author of the article presents us with a short history of Moritz Wandelmann’s activity. In 1891 he obtained the patent for royal supplier in Romania. At the end of the article we have a collection of vignettes used by Wandelman on the back of the cardboard sheets he would use as a support for his photographs.
