Summary/Abstract: Food has always been an important necessity, regardless of the society or time of individuals. Today, it is known that food has a meaning beyond physiological needs for individuals and societies. Considering the nutritional processes in societies is important not only in terms of the primary function of filling the stomach but also in terms of many sociological issues such as social transformation, social organization, class, gender, and inequality. In this study, how the sociology of food emerged, how food became a sociological research object, and the social meaning of food are included. Many studies can be done on food and its social meaning in sociology. Many categories, such as culture, identity, gender, and class, can be examined to analyze the social meaning of food. In this study, the social meaning of food will be exemplified through two selected categories. The first of these is the class, and the other is the identity category.
