Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the contribution of Georgi Baydanov (one of the well-established musical figures in the first decades after the Liberation) for introducing the theme of “Bulgarian Rospev” into the public space. It presents his publications on this topic, produced at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, based on the translation of Russian scholar Ivan Voznesensky’s book about “Bulgarian Rospev”, albeit with significant authorial changes and additions by Baydanov. The text highlights Georgi Baydanov’s contribution to the emergence of a discussion about the “true Bulgarian church singing” and the prospects that Bulgarian Rospev creates for new Bulgarian church music after the Liberation as well as for its introduction as a research area into Bulgarian musical medieval studies.
