Summary/Abstract: Nunatsiavut, located on the east coast of Canada, is the youngest of the four self-gov- erning Inuit regions that make up Inuit Nunangat. It was created through a 2005 land claims and self-government agreement between the Labrador Inuit, the province of Newfoundland and Lab- rador and the federal government. This paper has three objectives: first, to outline the history of Nunatsiavut's creation; second, to present the key provisions of the land claims agreement and the political institutions created at that time; and third, to evaluate the operation of Nunatsiavut using a multi-level governance model.
