Summary/Abstract: General Romulus Ioanovici (1889–1983), an exponent of the Great Union generation, was destined to be an involved witness of the Romanians’ dream to be together. He was born in October 25, 1889 in Târgu Jiu, in the family of major Romulus Ș. Ianovici and his wife, Profira born Bâlteanu, the mother of whom had come from the Romanescus family. He dedicated all his life to a military career. Having taken part in the Balkan War (1912– 1913), in the battles of 1916 at Predeal, Perșani, and Mărăști or Mezötur (Hungary), he finally halted in Budapest with the Regiment he commanded. It was May 17, 1919 when he entered Arad together with his comrades and the Romanian troops, the moment which changed his life. He met there the young Letiția Ispravnic who would become his wife a year later. He was decorated for his military career with “Coroana României/ Crown of Romania” to the degree of a knight, “Victoria/ Victory”, medal of the Great War for civilization, 1916–1921, “Steaua României/ Star of Romania” to the degree of knight with the ribbon “Virtute militară/ Military Virtue”. Leopold III, king of Belgium appointed him for Commander of “Crown of Belgium” Order for his offices as an attaché to the military Belgian deputation who took part in the Festivity Days in Sinaia, in October 25, 1937. He died in March 7, 1983 after his long military career and a life devoted to his family. He sleeps the sleep of the just in “Eternitatea” Cemetery, Arad. A proverbial correctness, punctuality, pedantry, sincerity and a rigor characteristic of military man were his personality’s features, a personality called to comply by professionalism and devotion the hole of the generation of the Great Union. Having lived in two Romanian countries, two world wars and two political systems Romulus Ioanovici lets a life story worthy of being followed as a depositary of the Romanian values he handed down to posterity
