Summary/Abstract: Drawing on the premises of avant-garde cinema (experimentation, transformation, liminality), this paper seeks to examine how intermediality functions as a form of experimentation in contemporary avant-garde cinema. It also bring new insights regarding the nature of the medium and the impact on the spectator. Examples will be drawn from Jean-Luc Godard’s films First Name: Carmen (1983) and Film Socialisme (2010).
