Summary/Abstract: As a member of the “socialist camp”, Romania was forced to denounce its traditional relations with the western allies and look for possibilities of foreign trade within the camp. A close cooperation among the “popular democracies” had also the important role of increasing the dependence of these countries to each other and to the Soviet Union. Starting with the 50s, Romania tried to improve its relations with the former partners from the west, in order to obtain the technology necessary for the industrialization process, in which case Romania had to find a solution to satisfy these states' conditions deriving from their losses caused by the Nationalization Act of 1949.
