Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to compare the type and level of difficulties experienced by students in the first three years of their studies. It was inspired by the experiences of the authors who, as academic teachers, are aware of the problems faced by students who study, what they talk about in conversations with lecturers, which they cannot cope with despite objectively possessed intellectual abilities. It describes issues related to understanding the difficult situation and experienced by students. The paper presents research with the use of the Student Difficulties Questionnaire by Justyna Iskra and Waldemar Klinkosz, in which 1035 people participated (students of the first three years of study). On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that there are significant differences in emotional response between first and second year students, and between first and second year students, and between fi rst and third year students, there are differences regarding the overload of requirements.
