Summary/Abstract: The late authors present a list of destroyed or still in place statues that once decorated streets and squares of Bucharest, many of these being important masterpieces. The communist regime decided that those of the monuments that were no more on ideological ‘line’ should be demolished and replaced by an art showing the new socialist realities. The article contents some evaluation of the historical figures represented by the monuments and their chances to be or not integrated in the new public historical image.
