Summary/Abstract: On October 30-31 1956, the students in Timișoara protested against communism much in the same way as the Poles and the Hungarians. The locus of the attempted rebellion was the Timișoara Polytechnic University, the only academic centre where such actions were carried out at more significant proportions, as the rebellion had been crushed in Bucharest, Iași and Cluj since its early stages.
