Summary/Abstract: The American “Eastern policy” strategy considered Romania a pivotal state in the process of undermining the Soviet bloc. The year 1964 witnessed a positive political and diplomatic reaction from the United States vis-à-vis the new “individualized” foreign policy rhetoric of Bucharest. The policy makers in Washington realized the significance of the P.M.R. (Romanian Workers’ Party) Central Committee Declaration and considered it a fundamental political statement shaping Romania’s new role on the world’s political stage.
