Summary/Abstract: The period 1955 - 1965 marks the early years of the Warsaw Treaty Organization. During this period, under the auspices of the Warsaw Treaty a number of cooperative exercises were planned and conducted. On the naval domain, the western part of the Black Sea was the host for several joint exercises, between the navies of the USSR, Romania and Bulgaria, on a smaller or larger scale. The number and complexity of those interactions increased after 1960, when the Soviet Union changed its approach to the alliance they were establishing and leading. Those cooperative exercises with the Soviets and Bulgarians provided for the crews of the few existing Romanian warships a good opportunity to acquire and practice the techniques tactics and procedures of the Soviet Navy.
