Summary/Abstract: The communist regime, although it preached atheism, tried in 1944-1947 to use the priests that wished to cooperate. However, the repression against the church was gradual, reaching a peak in 1948, when the Greek Catholic Church was forcibly united with the Orthodox Church. The conclusion of this study is that generally, both the Orthodox and the Catholic priests opposed the communist regime and many died in communist prisons.
