Summary/Abstract: A representative figure for Italian studies in Romania in the second half of the XXth century, Alexandru Balaci is known not only for his contribution to literary criticism and to lexicography but also for his political representativity, which allowed him to successfully promote the Italian culture and literature. His career began under the sign of class struggle, and this article investigates the reflection of this fundamental concept for communist ideology in the personnel file of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, as well as in the first works of the Romanian academic, hoping to shed a new light on the affiliation to the communist ideology instrumental in promoting cultural aspects.
