Summary/Abstract: Iread in the New York Times of 8th September 2010 that President Obama opposes any extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy “adding a populist twist” to an election season economic package. I became alerted to the use of the term “populism” about a year ago when an old friend of mine, a sociologist (Alpár Losoncz), noted during a conversation that “populism” has become a term (and label) used about as frequently and with such a vague content as the term/label “anarcho-liberalism” in communist times. At those times, it remained quite foggy and indistinct what anarcho-liberalism was, and who anarcho-liberals were, but it was clear that the term was intended to underline something considered to be on the wrong side. The person using the label also got as a bonus the flair of a connoisseur of more subtle aberrations.
